Franz Ferdinand are usually found playing upon arena stages, and the several hundred who were lucky enough to obtain tickets for this hastily arranged Resident Outstore gig knew they were in for a treat long before the band stepped onto the Concorde’s stage. He then playfully brought the audience’s attention to his outfit, asking “Do you like my sparkly jacket? Is it a bit too game show host?”Īs mentioned above, this show marked the release of their ‘best of collection’, ‘Hits To The Head’ and thus dutifully the audience were treated to an exciting back catalogue of their greatest hits! So after a gap of almost 18 years, Franz Ferdinand were back playing live at the Concorde 2 on Brighton seafront. The tickets would be limited to just one per person with the relevant purchase option of limited-edition vinyl, CDs or cassette from Resident and they were going on sale at 10am on Friday 4th March and no doubt sold out minutes later! Last week they announced that they would be performing a special compact outstore performance in support of their brand new 20 track ‘Hits To The Head’ album, in conjunction with Resident records of Kensington Gardens and local promoters One Inch Badge. So without further ado, here’s Cherie’s account………Īrguably the hottest ticket in town on a horribly windy and rainy night in Brighton, was held by those lucky punters who were squeezing back into the Concorde 2 tonight to take on the delights of a 15 song set by Franz Ferdinand. I also remember buying a pair of 15" Optimus woofers for a decent price and built a terrible, extremely undersized box for them for my first car (a 1980 Mercury Capri hatchback I was handed down from my older sister - a fine example of how terribly American car companies were still building them apparently still oblivious of the higher quality and lower priced mostly Japanese imports that were taking over under their noses - but I digress). I was 13 so like in 7th grade probably (but that was a long time ago now) and I can still somewhat remember the Radio Shack store in my local mall in Northern Virginia as a place that actually had a decent variety of electronics and a good assortment of electronic parts. Just for fun, I also stumbled across this Radio Shack catalog someone has generously scanned and uploaded at some point. I'm attempting to upload a pic of that ad below in case the link doesn't work. That price is pretty low but that was 2000 but mine say they were built in Malaysia for Radio Shack so just prior to the Chinese taking over pretty much everything. Looks like they're the ones in the middle for $79 though I can't see any model number. The picture quality is lacking, obviously, but you can still make it out the most part. I came across this old Radio Shack ad from 2000 when doing a search for these 40-5017's as Radio Shack speakers. ![]() Thanks again guys for the info, if you're out there somewhere. I'd like to have a little wall of speakers going there in between two sets of shelves I built and this is a decent start. I finally live in a single family house so I can get away with more volume, at least when the wife and kids aren't here. I plan to get a decent but not great receiver on the cheap to blast out there. These RCA's are just going to be in my garage shop/man space for when I'm working out or doing some ill-advised wood working project. The cabinets are in bad shape and they're not great speakers to begin with. This is a good pair to replace a crappy pair of Fisher STV-876 I bought from a local guy for $40. I'm no audiophile but I love good speakers especially older ones. ![]() Not sure if you two are still around but I appreciate the info anyway. The woofers look brand new as do the mids and tweeters. ![]() Other than that, they're in just about perfect shape. The cabinets are just barely knicked in a few places and one of the cloth grills has a tiny hole. I just bought a pair from Goodwill for $16! They're in really good shape. I know this is a very OLD thread but I thought I'd get in on it for grins since there's not much else out there for these RCA 40-5017 speakers. ![]() ![]() If the two of you like to get out and do something, here are several good and affordable date ideas in and near Wichita. Skinfood's Royal Honey Essential Eye Cream pairs natural humectants like glycerin and honey with emollients like shea butter to draw in moisture and soften the under-eye area for smoother, more hydrated skin. Plus all of the emission controls, that were tried by all the manufactures some worked but most failed. The metallurgy wasn't up to snuff for the unleaded gas. The unleaded gas was being pushed on us and that just ruined valve guides, and valves, at a rate that was just crazy. Yes, 1975 was a terrible year for most cars in the US. I will not comment on it's close cousin the Mustang II I know when to just let it go. A replacement for the Falcon is the best thing said for the Maverick. Very sorry to be so blunt but the facts show what it is. Grabber or otherwise that car should not be used in the same sentence with Sporty. I was working as a Ford Tehnician, in 1975 so I have first hand experience on the Maverick. That's when they went to the 12 Z-28 patrol cars as a test in 1981, followed by the infamous Mustang 5.0 patrol cars of the 1980s. Regis patrol cars that were so slow, they were being passed by older VW Beetles on hills. On the other hand, I don't doubt the dismal performance. Which version was tested for the article? These cars were factory available with different engines, transmissions, and rear axle ratios. Finally, published performance "data" is all over the map. This was long before computer controls, so the car has a single barrel carb that is tuned lean and has a million miles of vacuum lines to operate all the valves and sensors that are computer controlled today. This was the first year of federally-required catalytic converters, so 1975 cars had choked-off single exhausts. This was after the first gas crisis, so performance was sacrificed for economy by doing simple tricks like using very low numeric axle ratios. Also, keep in mind that 1975 was the absolute worst of the emissions-laden low-performance American automobiles. It's an economy car with some sporty styling touches. Well, your first problem is in thinking that the Maverick is a "sports car". How can a sports car with a bigger engine be slower than a beat up old volvo? I'd like to know in case of a zombie apocalypse, that I can do better than 19 seconds to 60, and top off a little higher than 80 mph. It's not that I plan on racing or abusing these cars, but. I came across a nice deal on a 1975 Ford Maverick Grabber, but then upon looking into the specs for the inline 6 version I'm seeing some numbers I can't believe for such a sporty looking car.
